# Motionly changelog and release notes

> Weekly Motionly release notes covering new features, editor updates, timeline improvements, export changes, preset additions, and bug fixes.

<Update label="July 26, 2026 — Asset selection, batch delete, and grid views">
  Faster asset management in the editor, with selection, cleanup, and layout options.

  ## New features

  * **Multi-select and range-select for assets, audio, and text** — click to select, `Ctrl/Cmd` + click to add or remove, and `Shift` + click to select a range across the Assets panel and text lists. See the [UI guide](/editor/ui-guide).
  * **Batch deletion with confirmation** — delete multiple selected items at once from a single confirmation dialog, so cleanup is quick and safe.
  * **Grid and list views for assets** — toggle between a thumbnail grid and a compact list to browse imported media the way you prefer.

  ## Updates

  * **Resizable content panel** — drag the panel edge to give the Assets, Audio, Text, and other tabs as much space as you need.
  * **Cleaner media import button** — the Assets panel's import control now has a more consistent look.
  * **Consistent selected-item highlighting** — selections now share the same visual treatment across every panel that supports them.
  * **Escape cancels the current selection** — press `Esc` to clear a selection or dismiss a pending action without touching the mouse.

  ## Bug fixes

  * **No more duplicate audio in the Assets panel** — audio tracks appear once, in the Audio folder, instead of showing up twice.
</Update>

<Update label="July 25, 2026 — Icon, image, UI, and SVG animation">
  Four more building blocks toward professional, non-slideshow motion: icons, images, UI components, and SVG.

  ## New features

  * **Real icon presets** — `springIn`, `bounceIn`, and `scaleReveal` now have distinct, real implementations (they previously fell through to a generic fallback). New `spinIn` gives logos/icons a full-rotation entrance with overshoot and settle.
  * **Image/media presets** — `kenBurns` for a continuous per-element pan+zoom independent of the global camera, and `tiltReveal` for a skew/rotation "perspective" card entrance. `followThrough` (from the motion-quality primitives) is the documented parallax mechanism for a background layer lagging behind foreground/camera movement.
  * **Standalone UI shapes** — `overlay` shapes no longer require a `parent` image; a shape overlay with no parent now positions itself relative to canvas center like any other element, instead of silently filling the whole frame. `rect` also respects `originX`/`originY` for its anchor, enabling left-anchored bars and panels.
  * **UI-component presets** — `cardReveal` (rise + scale + rising shadow elevation) and `buttonPop` (fast elastic tap-scale) for cards/buttons, and `progressFill` (animates `width` from 0) for progress bars. Notifications, modals, tables, and menus are documented composition recipes built from these plus existing presets (`dynamicSlide`, `scaleReveal`, `sequence`), rather than a growing list of one-off preset names.
  * **SVG trim paths and motion paths** — `trimStart` generalizes the existing `drawSVG` stroke reveal into a partial-arc "trim" (a moving trimmed segment, not just draw-from-start). A new `motionPath`/`motionPathProgress`/`motionPathRotate` lets any element travel along an imported path asset's geometry. Real path morphing and gradient-stop animation remain unsupported and are documented as such.
</Update>

<Update label="July 25, 2026 — Motion-quality primitives">
  The first step toward richer, less "slide transition" motion: opt-in physicality for any preset.

  ## New features

  * **Overshoot and anticipation** — `heroLogo`, `softReveal`, `productPanel`, `rotateReveal`, and other two-state object presets now accept `overshoot <multiplier>` (settle past the target then ease back) and `anticipation <time>` (a small counter-motion before the main move). Both are additive; existing projects render unchanged unless you add the options. See the [motion language reference](/motion-language).
  * **Secondary motion with `followThrough`** — any element can lag and dampen behind a parent's motion with `followThrough <parentId>`, `followThroughLag`, and `followThroughDamping`, for a label or glow that trails its icon instead of moving in lockstep.
  * **Hierarchy-aware `sequence` stagger** — `sequence` blocks gained a `hierarchy` option (`linear`, `wave`, `center-out`) and now drive delay for preset-driven elements too, not just explicit `animate` blocks, so a row of icons or cards can be staggered from one place instead of hand-computed per-element delays.
  * **Motionly preset refreshed** — the built-in Motionly preset now uses `heroLogo` with overshoot/anticipation for both logo reveals, a `sequence` block with `hierarchy wave` for the three agent icons, and `followThrough` on their labels, as a working example of all three.
</Update>

<Update label="July 25, 2026 — One drag, one undo">
  A tidier undo history when you edit interactively.

  ## Bug fixes

  * **Drag gestures collapse into a single undo step** — moving or resizing on the canvas, scrubbing a property slider, turning the rotation dial, or dragging in the color picker now record one history entry per gesture instead of one per pointer movement. `Ctrl/Cmd` + `Z` steps back through your edits at a natural pace. See the [UI guide](/editor/ui-guide).
</Update>

<Update label="July 24, 2026 — Keyframe and scale fixes">
  Editor fixes for cleaner keyframing and predictable scaling.

  ## Bug fixes

  * **Keyframes stay on the selected layer** — toggling or editing a keyframe no longer bleeds into other elements, so each layer's animation timeline is fully isolated. See [Keyframes](/animation/keyframes).
  * **Scale controls stay in sync** — the properties panel slider and numeric input now update together when you scale an element, whether from the canvas handles or the panel itself. See the [UI guide](/editor/ui-guide).
</Update>

<Update label="July 24, 2026 — Editor at root">
  Open the editor faster with a streamlined entry point.

  ## Updates

  * **Editor now loads at `/`** — starting `motionly dev` (or opening a preview) drops you straight into the editor. The separate welcome/onboarding screen and its toolbar link have been removed for a quicker path to the canvas. See the [quickstart](/quickstart).
  * **Legacy `/editor` URLs redirect** — bookmarks and links to the old path automatically send you to the root, so existing workflows keep working.
</Update>

<Update label="July 23, 2026">
  The visual editor lands, along with a refreshed timeline, richer asset workflows, and dependable MP4 export.

  ## New features

  **Visual editor**
  The Svelte-based editor is now the primary workflow, with scene, preview, properties, and timeline panels. Drag to move, use corner handles to scale, and tune position, rotation, opacity, color, timing, and easing without leaving the canvas. See the [UI guide](/editor/ui-guide).

  **Left navigation rail**
  A new icon-based rail groups your work into Media, Audio, Text, Effects, Scenes, Adjustments, and Settings tabs so you can jump between panels in one click.

  **Timeline clips with drag-and-drop**
  Drag assets from the Assets panel straight onto the timeline to create clips. Clips are persisted as first-class blocks in `.motion` alongside a new audio block for background tracks. See [Sequences](/motion-language/sequences).

  **Preset browser**
  Browse animation presets as visual cards with animated GIF thumbnails, then load with a confirmation dialog so nothing gets overwritten by accident. See [Presets](/animation/presets) and [Text presets](/animation/text-presets).

  **Organized Assets panel**
  Assets are now sorted into Audio and Images & Graphics folders. Click any asset to preview it without disrupting timeline playback.

  **Audio in `.motion`**
  Attach background audio to a project and it's saved directly in the `.motion` file with synchronized preview during playback.

  **MP4 export**
  Export MP4 files from the top toolbar with live progress feedback. See [Export overview](/export/overview) and [Formats](/export/formats).

  **BYOK AI Chat**
  Generate editable projects from your own API keys. OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, Hugging Face, or a custom endpoint — keys stay in local storage. See [AI authoring](/agents/ai-authoring).

  ## Updates

  * **Refreshed timeline styling** — clip blocks, trim handles, thumbnails, and a resizable playhead area for a cleaner editing surface.
  * **Polished properties panel** — custom sliders and styled inputs replace the earlier form controls.
  * **Direct save** — save opened `.motion` files (and the development-server project) in place, no re-export needed.
  * **Fullscreen preview and GitHub Star control** added to the top toolbar.
  * **One-click clip deletion** from the timeline.
</Update>
